Metrics glossary

Every metric RevGlance shows, with the definition its own page uses.

Each name opens the metric in RevGlance, where Show the math gives its formula and the rows behind any month. Definitions come straight from the metric catalog, so they always match the app.

Revenue

MRR
What your subscriptions bring in per month, with yearly plans counted as a twelfth.
ARR
Your MRR over a whole year: what subscriptions would bring in over twelve months if nothing changed.
Net revenue
The money you actually kept: charges, minus refunds and processor fees. One-time sales count too.
Other revenue
Charges that are not a subscription, like a one-off purchase. They count in net revenue, never in MRR.
Fees
What payment providers kept for processing your payments this month.
MRR growth
How much MRR grew or shrank this month, against what it was when the month began.
Quick ratio
Recurring revenue gained for every unit lost. Above 1 means more came in than left.
MRR discounted
Monthly revenue that running coupons and discounts take off. MRR already leaves it out.

Movement

New
Monthly revenue from people who subscribed for the first time.
Expansion
Extra monthly revenue from existing customers who moved to a bigger plan or added seats.
Contraction
Monthly revenue lost when customers moved to a smaller plan but stayed.
Churn
Monthly revenue lost when customers cancelled.
Failed charges
Payments that did not go through. They are left out of net revenue.
Coupons redeemed
Subscriptions that started using a coupon or discount this month.
Refunds
Money given back to customers, counted on the day the provider reports it.

Customers

Active customers
People with at least one paying subscription. Trials do not count until they pay.
New customers
People who subscribed for the first time.
Churned customers
People who cancelled their last subscription this month.
Reactivations
People who had cancelled and came back to pay again.
ARPU
What an average paying customer brings in per month: MRR shared across active customers.
Average sale price
What a typical new customer pays per month when they first subscribe.
Trial conversion
Of the trials that ended this month, the share that became paying customers.
Active subscriptions
Subscriptions still paying. A customer with a plan and an add-on has two.
New subscriptions
Subscriptions that started paying this month, including second subscriptions of existing customers.
Seats and units
Seats, licences or units across active subscriptions. A subscription without a quantity counts as one.
LTV
What a customer is likely to pay over their whole time with you, from ARPU and how often customers leave.

Churn

User churn
The share of paying customers who left this month.
Revenue churn
The share of monthly revenue lost to cancellations and downgrades this month.
Net revenue churn
Revenue churn after upgrades and returning customers made some of it back. Below zero means growth won.
Net revenue retention
How much of last month's recurring revenue you kept, counting upgrades. Above 100% means existing customers grew.
