Braintree

Connect Braintree with an API key pair to read transactions and recurring billing.

RevGlance reads Braintree's gateway API, the one Braintree's server SDKs use, because recurring billing lives only there.

Connect

  1. In the Braintree Control Panel, open Settings › API and generate a new API key pair.
  2. Copy the Merchant ID, Public key and Private key. The API user they belong to needs a role that can read transactions and subscriptions.
  3. Fill them in, enter production (or sandbox for a sandbox account) under Environment, and choose Connect Braintree.

Add the webhook

Braintree signs its webhooks with the same API keys the source already holds, so there is no secret to paste.

  1. In RevGlance, open Settings › Sources, open the Braintree source's menu and choose Webhook. Copy the URL.
  2. In the Braintree Control Panel, open Settings › Webhooks, create a webhook with that URL and select the subscription and transaction notifications.

What RevGlance syncs

  • Transactions: settled and settling sales become payments; credits become refunds. Authorizations that were never captured are left out.
  • Subscriptions and their plans, add-ons and discounts, for MRR, trials and cancellations.

The first sync reads every transaction Braintree keeps. Braintree reports no processing fees and no cancel reasons through its API.

How Braintree is counted

  • Settled and settling sales count, before tax when you send tax amounts. Authorizations that were never captured do not.
  • Refunds are the credit transactions, dated when Braintree made them.
  • Braintree reports no processing fees through its API, so fees show as zero.
  • MRR is the subscription price with its add-ons, less discounts that still have billing cycles left. A subscription names no customer, so it takes the customer of its charges; one with no charge yet shows under its card.
  • A cancel is dated from the status history. An expired subscription ends on its paid-through date.
  • A payment that could not be collected counts as a failed charge. It moves no money.
  • Chargebacks are not read, so a lost one stays counted as a charge unless the provider also reports it as a refund.
