App Store

Connect App Store Connect with an API key to read daily Sales and Trends reports for iOS and Mac.

RevGlance reads Apple's daily Sales and Trends reports through the App Store Connect API. The SALES summary gives paid apps and in-app purchases; the SUBSCRIBER report gives each subscription charge, free trial and refund.

Connect

  1. In App Store Connect, open Users and Access › Integrations › App Store Connect API and generate a team key with the Finance or Sales role.
  2. Note the Issuer ID above the key list and the key's Key ID, then download the .p8 file. Apple lets you download it once.
  3. Find your vendor number under Payments and Financial Reports (top left).
  4. Fill in the four fields, pasting the whole .p8 file, -----BEGIN PRIVATE KEY----- lines included, then choose Connect App Store.

Add the webhook

Reports land about a day late. App Store Server Notifications tell RevGlance the moment something changes, so the next report is fetched as soon as it exists.

  1. In RevGlance, open Settings › Sources, open the App Store source's menu and choose Webhook.
  2. Make up a long random secret, paste it under Signing secret and save.
  3. Copy the webhook URL and add ?token= and your secret to the end.
  4. In App Store Connect, open your app's App Information, and under App Store Server Notifications set that address as the production URL, version 2.

RevGlance checks the secret in the URL and Apple's own signature, a certificate chain up to Apple Root CA G3.

What to expect

  • Anonymous customers. Apple names no buyers. Each subscriber becomes one customer with an anonymous Subscriber ID, and offer codes, upgrades across subscription groups and ID resets can look like new subscriptions.
  • A year of history. Daily reports reach back a year, and each day arrives about a day late.
  • Cancels show late. Apple reports no cancels: a subscription ends when its renewal is three days overdue.

How the App Store is counted

  • Customer price counts as revenue and the fee is customer price less your proceeds, so tax in tax-inclusive prices shows up as fee.
  • MRR is the latest customer price, so it includes tax where prices do: Apple's reports do not split tax out. An introductory offer counts at its offer price, and the regular price then shows as an expansion.
  • A refund comes from Apple's report with a negative price. When Apple reverses a refund, RevGlance removes the latest refund of that subscriber and subscription. Apple does not say which refund was reversed, so with several refunds on one subscription the wrong one can go.
  • Refunds asked for after Apple resets a subscriber's ID (180 days) are kept, but without a customer.
  • App bundle credits (CMB-C) are not refunds and are left out.
  • Apple shows no cancels: a subscription ends when a renewal is three days overdue.
  • Failed charges are not reported, so that figure stays at zero.
